International students showed strong enthusiasm as they participated in the Grand Opening of Qur’anic–Academic Talks Chapter 1, organized by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang on Wednesday (March 11, 2026). The event served as both an academic and spiritual forum, bringing together students from various countries to discuss Qur’anic values in an academic context.
The event, which took place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, was opened with a welcoming speech by the Dean of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Walid, M.A. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of integrating Qur’anic studies with the development of knowledge within the university environment.
“This Qur’anic–Academic Talks program is expected to become a platform for academic dialogue that connects the values of the Qur’an with the development of science and knowledge, while also strengthening both intellectual and spiritual life among students,” he stated.
The event featured Drs. H. Basri, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, as the keynote speaker. In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of making the Qur’an a source of inspiration in academic development as well as a foundation of ethics in education.
He also noted that the presence of international students in the forum reflects the universal values of the Qur’an, which can serve as a meeting point for students from diverse cultural and national backgrounds.
The international students actively participated throughout the program, from the opening session to the academic discussion. Their involvement reflects the university’s commitment to internationalization while fostering cross-cultural interaction within the academic community at UIN Malang.
Following the Qur’anic–Academic Talks session, the program continued with a khotmil Qur’an attended by all participants. The event concluded with an iftar (breaking of the fast) gathering, creating a sense of togetherness among students, lecturers, and members of the academic community from different countries.
Through this initiative, FITK UIN Malang hopes that Qur’anic–Academic Talks will become a continuous academic agenda that enriches scholarly discourse while strengthening spiritual values within a multicultural campus environment.
