Erasmus+ Socialization Encourages UIN Malang Academic Community to Expand International Competencies

Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang organized an online socialization session on the Erasmus+ program on Thursday (May 21, 2026), aiming to encourage its academic community to expand their international competencies and global engagement.

The event, initiated by the International Office of UIN Malang and conducted via Zoom, was officially opened by Drs. H. Basri, MA,Ph.D., as Rector and Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs. In his remarks, he emphasized that Erasmus+ offers significant opportunities for both students and lecturers to enhance their academic capacity and gain international experience.

He stressed that preparation, especially in foreign language proficiency, is essential for those interested in participating in the program. According to him, studying in Europe is a valuable opportunity that should be utilized optimally through early and serious preparation.

The session featured Destriani Nugroho, Program Manager for Higher Education, Youth, and Culture from the European Union delegation, as the main speaker. She explained that Erasmus+ is a European Union-funded program designed to support education, youth development, and sports, while strengthening international cooperation between European countries and partner nations, including Indonesia.

Destriani highlighted that participants of Erasmus+ can benefit from internationally recognized academic systems, including the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which allows credits earned abroad to be converted into Indonesia’s academic system. She also noted that collaborations under Erasmus+ are formalized through Inter-Institutional Agreements, ensuring structured and standardized partnerships without requiring a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

In her presentation, she introduced key program schemes, including the European Dimension and International Dimension, as well as Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programs, which offer international master’s degree opportunities across multiple universities in Europe for one to two years.

The event also included a sharing session by Arief Rakhman Setiono, a lecturer from UIN Malang and Erasmus+ alumnus, who recounted his experience participating in the International Staff Exchange program in Poland at Cracow University of Technology. He described the program as a valuable opportunity to enhance academic insight and build global professional networks.

Moderated by Arofiatus Sa’diyah from the International Office team, the session ran interactively, allowing participants to gain deeper insights into the application process, program benefits, and international academic collaboration.

Through this initiative, UIN Malang reaffirmed its commitment to promoting global academic engagement and encouraging more students, lecturers, and academic staff to actively participate in international programs such as Erasmus+.
